Hemp may be illegal in the UK, but CBD (or CBD) oil is not – and in recent years its health benefits have been better explained and understood.
But how does CBD oil affect esports and gaming? take a look.
Looking specifically at esports in the UK, the most obvious development to mention is the partnership between the UK-based team organisation. London Esports and CBD Drinks Brand Aver.
The first-of-its-kind deal aimed to “confront stereotypes about courage and support men’s mental health”.
In an article in Dexerto (linked above), Aver co-founder Alexander Ames said: “At Aver we were talking about overcoming fear and anxiety, which is so relevant to all our lives now. Fear is a useless emotion unless followed by action, but moving from fear to The act requires a crucial middle step: courage.
“We want to encourage people to take action and ‘live well’. Partnering with a group of young people who took the road and didn’t travel much and became living a dream as a result – they felt so good.”
Recently, London Esports launched new content in partnership with Aver, such as the following:
Aver’s CBD energy drinks include the likes of Boost and Calm, which contain ingredients like chamomile, lemon, ginger, natural caffeine, vitamin C, magnesium, and of course, CBD.
CBD has a range of purported health benefits, including pain relief, reduced anxiety and PTSD, relief from diabetes complications, protection against neurological disease and more. For esports, it can reduce pain and inflammation acquired from professional games and long gaming sessions, as well as increase the healing rate of damaged or inflamed tissue.
CBD comes in a variety of forms, from capsules to creams, oils, gums, and more. For example, there is CBD Cream for Muscles and Joints UK Available.
What about esports tournaments? Are players allowed to take CBD products? It depends on the event and the tournament organizer.
It appears that some, such as ESL, do not allow players to take CBD products while participating in a tournament, but state that consuming these products is OK outside of a tournament cycle. So no player should be given a competitive advantage.
There are other partnerships outside of London Esports and Aver’s.
Braxton ‘Brax’ Pierce (pictured above) struck a deal with SummaForte earlier this year.
“I’ve been using SummaTape and SummaMix for a while and both have helped me up my game,” he said. “The tape is easy to apply and helps my hands recover from long scrim blocks. This blend is delicious and an easy part of my daily routine. I’m excited to be the first SummaForte ambassador and one of the first CBD advocates in gaming, and I look forward to helping bring healthy performance to the scene” .
It is clear that the concept of CBD is changing, both in general and within gaming/esports, as well as in the understanding surrounding it.
