HHC is produced when a certain amount of hydrogen is given to a cannabinoid compound which changes its chemical structure. Next, a metal catalyst is added to induce a reaction with the compound. Commonly used catalysts for HHC production include platinum, palladium, and nickel. These metal catalysts are removed once the reaction is complete.
How safe is HHC?
Just like all modern hemp-derived cannabinoids, there is little information about the long-term and immediate effects of HHC. In fact, there are no standard doses for these cannabinoids including HHC. Because hemp-derived cannabis is not subject to cannabis laws in cases of legal adult use, retailers and manufacturers fail to test their products. As a result, the safety, purity, and efficacy of hemp-derived cannabinoids (including HHC) have not been guaranteed.
However, some retailers still go ahead to test their HHC products using third-party labs. Tests show a product with 99% HHC.
How strong is HHC?
No common ground has yet been found regarding the efficacy of HHC. This is because when cannabis is produced, the product is usually a mixture of two different types of HHC molecules. These molecules include 9R HHC and 9S HHC. While 9R HHC actively binds to endocannabinoid receptors in the body, 9S HHC does not bind well due to the difference in its molecular structure. Receptor-compatible 9R HHC molecules produce the same effects as delta-9 THC, but at a higher dose. Thus, with a large dose of HHC, THC-like effects can be determined. Simply put, HHC can have the same effect as THC on the mind and body but HHC has Less potency than delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol.
Some HHC users have claimed that HHC gives a nice and average brain boost. There are also claims that HHC acts as a pain reliever. Some claim to feel rejuvenated, energetic, and strong after using HHC for recreational use.

Among the recently introduced cannabinoids, only HHC shares very close similarities with Delta-9 THC. HHC Delta-9 is similar to THC in terms of chemical structure and therapeutic effects. This is why many have reported effects like pain relief, anxiety relief, brain and body, relaxation, and happiness after taking HHC.
Although a lot of studies are still underway to better understand HHC, some studies to date have linked HHC to cancer treatment. Does HHC show up on a drug test?
Many people have started turning to HHC claiming that cannabis can avoid drug tests. However, all evidence to support this claim is only anecdotal. Most allegations are just rumours. Although he emphasized that it is possible that HHC does not convert to 11-hydroxy-THC which is a common metabolite of drug testing. Currently, there is no concrete evidence to support the claim that HHC does not show up in drug tests. Don’t bet your career and job on hearsay and anecdotal evidence.
Is HHC legal?
This is perhaps the most complex question about HHC. We say yes. This is because HHC is derived from hemp and is not produced from THC. Based on this fact, HHC should be in a clear position. HHC gum, edibles, and vapes are all legal at the federal level and should also remain legal at the state level. Other arguments supporting the legality of HHC claim that HHC is found in the pollen and seeds of hemp plants. Thus, it is not synthetic and therefore completely legal in federal terms.
Currently, HHC products tread in the gray areas of legality between hemp (which is legal) and hemp (which is not). Until specific legislation is announced, retailers and producers will continue to assume that HHC is legal.
