Russian arrested for growing marijuana in the bedroom

A Russian tourist was arrested Saturday for growing cannabis at a home in the central province of Binh Thuan.

Phan Thiet police arrested Dmitriy Schedko, 33, after he planted dozens of cannabis plants in a bedroom in a rented home in the city.

Police searched the house on Friday and found 27 planted cannabis plants.

Three kilograms of dried cannabis were also found, along with equipment used in the cultivation and cultivation of cannabis.

Shedko said he bought seeds and other planting equipment two months ago. After harvesting and processing, he distributed cannabis to his Russian friends in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet.

Cannabis is on the list of prohibited drugs in Vietnam. Those who grow cannabis on a small scale can be fined 2-5 million VND ($86.16-215.40). Farmers have found that those growing 500 to 3,000 plants could face prison terms of six months to three years, while those working on a larger scale could serve up to seven years in prison.
