By his own admission, Randall Buchman’s attempt to grow his first four cannabis plants after obtaining his medical marijuana card failed miserably.
He’s come a long way since that attempt in 2009.
Buchmann quickly refined his cultivation methods, expanding them to the maximum number of plants under the Medicare Providers Act, launching in 2018 Pleasantriesone of the first recreational cannabis companies in Michigan Best growing facility in the state And the highest network of cannabis dispensaries.
“My only goal was to be the number one grower and seller of the best cannabis in Michigan,” Buchmann said. “The core of the company is that we are people who are passionate about cannabis, and we have been involved since the beginning. We are not entrepreneurs trying to get into the industry.
“The focus has always been on creating a quality product with authenticity. We believe cream rises to the top. We want to be transparent and help people learn and understand how our cannabis differs from others. It’s not always about the most effective product, it’s about being the best.”
Pleasantries’ growth has been remarkable, beginning with the help of friends and family for Bushman and then expanding from 25 employees in January 2020 to nearly 225 employees today. The staff, which includes a growing team of experts with over 100 years of experience growing cannabis, tends to more than 9,000 plants in a 50,000 square foot facility in the town of Harrison. There are 10 flower rooms, two plant rooms, drying and processing rooms, as well as a nursery and tables specially designed for mowing the harvested plants.
Pleasantrees has over 100 strains under cultivation and maintains a seed bank of over 600 different genes – grown in custom soils mixed with organic matter and biomicrobes. Organic oils are used to naturally ward off pest and mold threats.
“We always try to improve it, increase the quality and efficiency because the way you grow it is the most important thing,” Buchmann said. “There is no wing. You run and shoot to develop the strongest and best flowering plants.”
Pleasantries It just completed its 100th harvest, and it’s producing a new crop every week, according to Bushman. “It’s always a great product that is handled with care,” he said.
Michigan cannabis users can get Pleasantrees, live hash pines, pre-rolls, and vape cartridges at its five dispensaries in Michigan: East Lansing, Hamtramck, Houghton Lake, Lincoln Park and Mount Clemens. Pleasantree also distributes to third parties
Pleasantrees dispensaries are preparing to embrace the traditional cannabis holiday 4/20 – the date recognized in the marijuana tradition to celebrate cannabis – with its unprecedented “10 Days of 420” promotion. Consumers will be able to buy one, get one for a penny on all Pleasantrees flower and pre-roll products starting April 13 and running through April 23.
“We’ve never done anything like this, and it’s a great opportunity for people to learn more about us and to help them discover what they love,” Buchmann said. “We’re posting it beyond a day because we want to share the holiday with as many people as possible.”
Buchmann’s early entry into the Michigan cannabis industry came through his medical use and his belief that Michigan would legalize marijuana as many states in the western United States had already done.
“It was an indication to me that this is where the ball is going, let’s skate in there and be ready as soon as that happens,” said Buchman, who graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in business administration. “We see people accepting cannabis and making it part of the communities.
“The municipalities have seen us as a professional and well-run group that benefits not only cannabis patients and consumers but also society as a whole.”
