Democratic state lawmakers celebrated Wednesday 4/20 with calls to legalize recreational marijuana, regulate the market, and remove criminal convictions related to cannabis.

Last year, a bill to legalize recreational marijuana use by adults passed the Minnesota House Council by 72 to 61.

The vote marked the first time a legalization bill had reached the state assembly floor, but the bill accompanying the effort is set to die in the Republican-controlled Senate, where Minnesota Republicans oppose legalization.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and other DFL lawmakers took to social media on 4/20 — the unofficial cannabis holiday — to continue calls for decriminalization.
