Marietta Council discusses the decision to support the legalization of cannabis

what or what: Council members voted to add an item to the agenda of a June 14 meeting to discuss a resolution to support cannabis legalization in Pennsylvania.

background: Drafted in Adams County by Abbotstown Borough Director David Bolton, Resolution 21-2022 is seeking support from the Marietta Borough Council to legalize the cannabis industry and erase past cannabis-related crimes in Pennsylvania. If passed, the town “will support the passage of legislation to end the needless ban on the use of the cannabis plant and its application to adults within the state of Pennsylvania.” The Board will discuss the resolution and hear public comments at its next meeting.

review: Borough Council received the results of its audit from Michael Reiner of Sager, Swisher & Co. LLP, who said the audit did not find significant problems or problems, and that all government money remains strong.

Upcoming events: On Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26, Riverfest brings together three river cities – Columbia, Marietta and Wrightsville. Saturday’s Bridge Burners Challenge Run and Paddle commemorates the burning of the Columbia-Rightsville Bridge in 1863 during the Civil War to prevent Confederate forces from crossing the Susquehanna River. The kayaking trail starts running from Columbia River Park and continues the Northwest River Lancaster County Trail to Marietta’s Iron Kilns.
