Miami Florida Department of Health officials are moving forward with the process of awarding 22 more state licenses to medical marijuana operators.
The renewal fee for the new application is $146,000 and the “collection cycle” will allow operators to reapply for licenses when they are denied. The department has not yet announced the application period.
Governor Ron DeSantis’ administration recently hired Christopher Kimball to direct Office of Medical Marijuana UseOMMU, the state agency that regulates Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers, or MMTCs.
As of Friday, Florida had 776,365 registered patients with marijuana prescriptions, 2,630 doctors qualified to prescribe them, 501 dispensing locations, depending to OMMU.
Recreational marijuana is still illegal in Florida.
