BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The German Customs and Finance Federation has opposed Traffic Light’s plans to legalize cannabis in Germany, casting doubt on the plan’s legality. Federal President Dieter Dewes said in a statement on Monday.
The union referred to existing international regulations, such as the Schengen Implementation Agreement. In this regard, the states of the Schengen Area, in which freedom of movement without mutual border controls apply, have committed themselves to “preventing the illicit export of drugs of all kinds, including cannabis products, as well as the sale, purchase and distribution of these substances by administrative and criminal means.”
The Customs and Finance Union also suspects that legalization can improve youth and health protection and dry up the black market.
