Nearly a decade after starting to sell recreational cannabis in Colorado, Golden is taking his first rip

THE GOLDEN — Seventeen months after this city’s voters approved recreational cannabis sales — and nearly a decade after Colorado’s first retail and edible store sold out — this tourist-friendly town on the metro area’s western edge is finally joining the bowl party.

The Verts Neighborhood Dispensary, formerly known as alternative medicine gold and the city’s only medical marijuana store, made its first sale of recreational cannabis during the soft opening of a renamed store this week.

Verts officially opens its doors at 511 Orchard St. on April 5 with a ribbon cutting at — wait for it — 4:20 p.m
