Minnesota’s governor has signed a bill to legalize marijuana, making it the 23rd state in the United States to end a cannabis ban.
After months of committee hearings and voting in the hall, Governor Tim Walz (D) signed HF 100 on Tuesday, as previously committed to.
“This has been a long journey with a lot of people involved,” Walz said. “What we know now is that bans don’t work. We’ve offended a lot of people who are going to start the deletion process on those records.”
“It’s going to take us some time to get this going. We’re going to get some people in to be able to manage this,” he said. “But I assure Minnesotans that a lot of thought has gone into this. A lot of things that have been learned in other states have been incorporated into how we are going to do this, and the thinking around this legislation really gives us a good guiding principle.”
